Why Spots Cow Decal Double

Did I lose some serious sleep or what trying to keep my lids open to read this book while on vacation? Yes, I did. It was in my book shelf, had forgotten about it; came up as a “must read” during a dinner party and so I dusted it off and took it to Minneapolis. My host is an introvert so when he was doing his thing I was reading this book. I’ve read some of the reviews and lots of “issues” around race. Well, it’s virutally impossible to discuss race in this country without someone getting an appendage out of joint. Whatever. As far as a work of LITERATURE, it’s magnificent storytelling. Funny. Well plotted. And indeed, yet another take the Civil Rights era. I like the wholly female perspective on this. It was refreshing. I left the book in Minneapolis, made my friend promise to read it. He loved it, too. Happy page turning!

Last night I began reading Artemis Fowl because so many of my friends were saying they were rereading the series for the fifth or sixth time. I began to get excited as well, especially after finding out that it was about a 12 year old evil genius. I finished the book earlier today and found that the only thing I liked about it was the premise: it’s very interesting, and has a lot of potential. Eoin Colfer, however, fails to deliver.

I was not able to identify with (or even believe) any of the characters. It was only Artemis Fowl who managed to draw me in (and only because of the premise), and Colfer keeps him in the background, choosing instead to focus on less interesting characters like Holly and Root.

The majority of the book is made up of dialogue attempting to be witty and failing miserably. Not only were the “jokes” not funny, but they were out of character as well, and inappropriate for the situation. The narrator even admits that the jokes are out of character, mentioning a few times how Artemis is surprised every time he cracks jokes. I have to ask: Why does Artemis crack jokes, then? There is no explanation for this–Artemis’ being (supposedly) “out of character” is not significant to the plot at all. I believe that the writer merely added these instances where Artemis jokes “uncharacteristically” because he couldn’t think of a better way to say that Artemis is not one to joke. Other writers have been able to add humor to grim situations very successfully–Colfer is not one of those writers.

Other than this, every event in the story feels as if it happened much too easily. Artemis getting the Book, Artemis decoding the Gnomish, Artemis finding a way to survive. I know he’s supposed to be a genius but, honestly, the ease with which he accomplishes these tasks is highly unbelievable. My friend explained this by saying, “It’s a kid’s book.” Its being a children’s book is not an excuse for bad writing.

The only reason I gave this book two stars is because

What an awful book. Written in 1951, this book originally sparked great controversy with its mature themes focusing on the teenage angst, loneliness and rebellion of the protagonist Holden Caulfield. I guess its like a really bad version of James Dean’s classic Rebel Without a Cause. Caulfield is the archetype of an underachiever. Today kids are reading about the latest sluggard – Greg Heffley from The Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The characters Greg and Holden have a lot in common.

Catcher in the Rye follows the life of Holden Caulfield for a few days after being expelled from Pencey prep school as he returns home to New York City and contemplates life. Although, Caulfield does little contemplation and spends most of his time whining and complaining about everyone and everything. He sees the negative in everything (except his little sister) and makes one bad and offensive decision after another for almost 300 pages of misery. The only value I can find in reading this book today is to use Holden Caulfield as an example of what NOT to be – lazy, negative, and uninspired. Unfortunately the latest version of Holden Caulfield appears to be as popular with readers today as Catcher in the Rye was fifty years ago. When are we going to wake up and stop celebrating negative characters like Holden and Greg?

Love Double Peppermint for you

Great suction believe the hype this is the best vacuum I have ever used. I never buy expensive Vacuum’s. And most the time I had to use the bare floor setting to get them to clean the carpet. I did a lot of research and bought this vacuum and it did not disappoint. If I try to use the bare floor setting on this baby it sucks the carpet so hard I can’t push it. Finally a great vacuum at a great price.

CC Cateye Double TR200DW low class

I just purchased one of these as they were supposed to be a pretty good unit for cadence, speed etc. I bought it for my new Tri-bike. Right from the start, this product IS NOT TRI BIKE FRIENDLY….

1. None of the components seemed to fit securely
2. The part that holds the sensor (attached to the stem) has some plastic piece of garbage type screw mechanism
that looks like it’s going to pop off any second. Which means so is your $100 sensor.
3. The parts that fit on the chain stay and crank are equally poorly designed. So poor that one of those lame
plastic dial pieces popped during installation, rendering the speed mechanism useless. This means, I’ve just
wasted 1 1/2 weeks waiting for this piece of garbage just so I can go through the whole process of returning it
and buying a new one.

I would not recommend this product if you ride a lot as the whole set up seems frail and unstable!!!! It seems like there are too many weak, plastic pieces that can fail!
I guess cateye’s are not made for tri bikes…

I’m going with the Cadence/Speed sensor by Garmin, which works with my 305. Seems a bit more sturdy.

Have a good one!

This is a great product at a terrific price. It sure proves the retailers wrong who try & sell you these cables at a much higher price, up to 20 times higher. Delivery was quick. Have had for about two months and installed on a new HDTV, my first. Beautiful picture, even the cable guys remark what a great picture we get. You can’t go wrong with this item.
