And of Darkness Heart series
This book contains four stories: Youth, The Secret Sharer, An Outpost of Progress, and Heart of Darkness. All four are very good stories, and the last 2 are absolutely first-rate.
Youth (1902) is a short, somewhat autobiographical account of a voyage to Bankok.
The Secret Sharer (1910) is a short story/novella about a young captain who encounters a fugitive on his boat with whom he identifies uncannily.
An Outpost of Progress (1896) is a short story about two white men living at an ivory trading station. Conrad said this was his best story, and, from compared to the other 3 stories in this collection, I’d say he’s correct, although Heart of Darkness comes close.
Heart of Darkness (1910) is a novella about a man who becomes a steamer captain in Africa. A masterful work.
The book is $8 at Borders. There one or two printing errors, but they aren’t that noticeable. I think they missed a period and added in a few accidental “I”s. Buy it; its a good collection of Conrad stories, containing both his most famous (Heart of Darkness), and his best (Outpost).

This is my second favorite Janette Oke book. (My first is A Gown of Spanish Lace.)I am currently rereading it for about the tenth time and once again falling in love with all the characters.
It is about a somewhat pampered and sheltered young woman named Elizabeth who decides to accept a teaching position in western Canada where life is backward compared to her hometown.
She encounters a few obstacles with courage and spunk. She adores her students and is an awesome teacher and role model.
She is determined not to marry right away, but when an attractive Mountie comes into her life, her mind changes. Mine would too if I met someone like Wynn! Jannette Oke has good taste in men.
I highly recommend the entire Canadian West Series for females ages 15 and up. I especially love the first 2 of the series. It is easy to fall in love with both the characters and Canada.
In order to really enjoy an Oke book you really have to read it slowly. So if you don’t have the time and patience to spend a few days quietly reading a book, this isn’t for you.I often have a hard time settling down for the first chapter or two of her novels since they are slowpaced, but then I am able to really get into the story and am glad I decided to slow down and smell the roses.
I hope someday Hallmark (or anyone else)makes this book into a movie.

I couldn’t get past my dislike of the Shelley character. I kept asking myself, “If you’re so skeptical and downright disbelieving, than what are you doing here?” Of course, I suppose she just wanted to follow her brother, but still, after while I wanted to kick her in the butt and tell her to go home! I simply didn’t like Shelley! To me, she was completely unsympathetic after awhile. I think I would have enjoyed this book a lot more when I was a teenager, when I was not a particularly critical reader.

I researched vaccuums for about 2 hours before deciding on this one. I wanted a bagged vaccuum b/c it seemed that the bagless created more mess when you empty them and a lot of them have expensive HEPA filters to replace. I wanted to spend less than $100 also. I decided to play the odds and get this vaccuum. So far I have only used it once, but it works amazing. It sucks stuff up powerfully on my laminate floors and on my high-pile area rugs. You can even change the level of the vaccuum based on the floor type. When you select high pile, it’s easy to vaccuum flimsy area rugs. I am very VERY happy with my purchase and just hope that it keeps up for the next few years. I definitely recommend this vaccuum. It is lightweight, easy to put together, and overall really easy to use.

The Harrison Saga continues. After reading “Once you’ve touched the heart”, I couldn’t wait to get an update on JD, Tracy and the rest of the clan. It was worth the wait. Once again Ms. Bolling has written an intriguing story involving love, politics and drama with UNFORGETTABLE main and secondary characters. I was caught up in this story just like in her first book. Ms. Bolling knows how to keep her readers entertained, she is an awesome writer. You will love Ashley and James story. Keep up the good work Ms. Bolling. Highly recommend.

there is obvious confusion abounding in the world today. If people would simply read their Bible, asking God for His illumination on their reading, they would know who He is. this book is not the voice of God, but of a confused individual. don’t buy it.

I have a dog who sheds a lot, and has medium-length fur. I don’t have to use this product much, maybe every week to two weeks.
From the first time I used it, I noticed a drastic improvement in my carpet appearance. Still hair floating around, but not like before. This product removes clumps and clumps of fur. My dog hates to be brushed in general and does not enjoy being brushed by the furminator either, but when we are done with the furminator, he shakes and you can tell his fur feels better for him.
Also, I use the furminator de-shedding shampoo in combination with this product and it helps with the shedding as well.

Heart Bitter Grown The Final
I’m in college so I don’t have the time to keep up with new and up-and-coming books, but I usually have a huge list come summertime. This was the first on that list and I’m so happy it was! It was the perfect way to start off my summer. The story is about an old man in a nursing home reflecting his thoughts and his story. After the death of his parents, he runs away from an ivy league and ends up on a circus train. His story is about his trials at the circus and his relationship with Marlena.
The imagery is bursting and the action is so suspenseful that I found myself reading as fast as I could and even skimming to find out what happened next. The characters are extremely likeable and you can relate to a lot of them. They’re quirky with tangible flaws and the progress of the story is perfect. So why 4 stars? The ending caught me quite off-guard. Everything was believable but because it was so realistic, the conclusion ended up being blunt and left me thinking “would something like this really happen?”. But it really is one of the best books I’ve read all year and believe all the other reviewers; it’s as good as they say it is.
