Embroidery Inspiration for talk

I’m disappointed in this scale. Confused by its fluctuating readings, I called the company. I was informed that the scale should not be moved once it is placed on the floor. That was tough, since we have a very small bathroom and it was stored under the sink.

Me: “Do you mean it will give a wrong reading the first time, every time it is moved?”
Company: “Yes.”

He then went on to assure me that all digital scales are like that.

I removed the bathroom hamper and gave the scale its own corner. Of course, I may not notice if it is moved by someone else, so I never trust the first reading now.

Bear in mind, “fluctuating readings” to me mean a difference of less than one pound. I noted that Consumer Reports in its February 2010 issue identifies scales as accurate if they are correct within one pound. So perhaps my expectations are too high. But nearly every morning since that call about a week ago, it will give me different readings within a few moments of each other. And to me, .4 is a big deal This morning I got on the scale, and it showed exactly the same weight (to the decimal point) as it did the day before, and the day before. I grabbed a large bottle of lotion, and got the same exact weight weighing *with* a pound of lotion in my hand. I removed the scale battery (to reset it), and set the scale down, disregarding the initial “wrong” reading, which was the same as the first one of the morning. Then I picked up the lotion, and it noted a pound gain. Good. Then I weighed without holding anything, and it showed my weight as .4 above the initial weight. Then I weighed again, and it showed the initial weight again. In between each weighing, I waited until the scale went dark.

All that being said, I’m sure it is accurate to within a pound, but if I wanted that, I could have stuck to my old scale. I’m not sure what the point of a digital scale with .10 readings is if it isn’t to track smaller weight changes.
